UCR Update

The 2010 Unified Carrier Registration initial filing period is drawing to a close.

MoDOT will not guarantee that applications made after July1 can be processed by July 15, 2010, the nationwide UCR enforcement date.

While MoDOT cannot predict the cost of a citation in any given county or state, we have heard that in many cases, the cost of citations received by some carriers EXCEED the cost of UCR registration fees.

Log into MoDOT Carrier Express to file online - www.modot.org/mce information about the 2010 UCR program at www.modot.org/mcs. Choose Program then UCR.

A series of upcoming workshops will discuss proposed amendments to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Truck and Bus Regulation.  The regulation phases in retrofit or replacement requirements on trucks with seven-year-old or older engines that operate in California, regardless of where the trucks are domiciled.  At its recent meeting, the Board directed staff to draft both short- and long-term changes to the regulation that will mitigate the potential effects of an unfavorable economy on affected businesses.  The initial workshop, on Thursday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. PDT in Sacramento, will be broadcast over the internet.  Two additional workshops will be held on Wednesday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in El Monte and on Tuesday, May 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. in Fresno.  Click here for additional information.

Driver Monitoring Marks Future Trend for Transportation Industry

Although drivers are required to report every traffic violation within 30 days and CDL suspensions within one day, few do so because the fundamental fear of losing a job is stronger than the commitment to "play by the rules." This puts carriers in a difficult position, having drivers on the road without full knowledge of their safety records and license status until the annual MVR review. To use an extreme example, a driver could have a major moving violation the day after his annual review and the carrier would not know about it for the next year...leaving that driver on the road as a potential liability.
