Repairs to Major Kansas City Interchange Are Completed Early
Kansas City's Westbound I-470 Opens Friday in the 3-Trails Crossing
Forty-three days after sliding soil triggered collapsed pavement, a restored westbound I-470 opens Friday in the 3-Trails Crossing, 19 days ahead of schedule.
"Thanks to the extraordinary teamwork and efforts of hundreds of transportation engineers, designers and construction workers, we are re-opening this vital link 19 days earlier than the contractor's deadline," said MoDOT District Engineer Beth Wright. "We are also grateful to the thousands of motorists who patiently altered their routes to accommodate this emergency repair."
General contractor Pyramid Contractors, Inc. committed to re-opening I-470 by Sept. 15. Pyramid will receive an incentive payment of approximately $760,000 for restoring traffic Friday.
When MoDOT closed the busy interstate link July 17, a team composed of geologists and engineers set about the task to remedy the problem and get traffic back onto the five-lane segment of highway as soon as possible.
In the span of five weeks, workers removed the failed pavement, drilled shafts more than 60 feet deep to form concrete pillars anchored into bedrock that support the 225-foot-long bridge extension, and formed and poured a concrete deck and barrier walls.
100 percent of the debris from the collapsed roadway will be recycled. None of the material from the old road way will make its way to landfills. Material was sorted into steel, other metal, rock, and soil to be recycled or reused in other projects.

Traveling as a commercial driver in Missouri just got easier. MoDOT's Traveler Information Map was just upgraded to include a special Size & Weight view.
Enter the overall height of a load and click Set Minimum Clearance. Icons representing overhead structures lower than your minimum appear. Check the route you plan to use to see if the road is restricted or closed to oversized or overweight loads. Imagine the time you'll save when choosing a route to enter into the MoDOT Carrier Express online system!
Use the cursor to hover over an icon. When you see it begin to pulse, look to the lower left part of the screen. An explanation of the closure or structure height will appear, giving you location and dimension details.
BUT WAIT! There's more!
Look to the tabs at the top. Whether you are on the standard travelers' map or the size and weight version, you can track storm movement by choosing Radar. By combining the road conditions and road closure information on the standard map with National Weather Services radar images, the map can help you make informed decisions about travel in winter weather or stormy conditions.
Use the Zoom tab to choose a detailed view of the city, county, MoDOT district or highway route you want to view up close. A magnifying glass icon near the bottom of the screen also helps enlarge a section. The icon with a magnifying glass over the globe returns you to the original view.
When you have some time, we invite you to explore all the map has to offer. We hope it helps you make sound safety and business decisions.

UPDATES:
U.S. 61 is now open near Alexandria. It had been closed by floodwater.
U.S. 36 Will close Monday at its junction with Mo. 13 so the bridge deck can be poured. Traffic will route up and over the Mo. 13 exit and entrance ramps. This begins Monday, June 28, at midnight and should be complete by 7 am Tuesday, June 29. This closure had been planned for tonight, but had to be changed.
Interstate 70 will close at 8 pm tonight through early Monday morning in downtown St. Louis. Commercial trucks should use another interstate and avoid the area completely. Choices include Interstates 44,55,64 and 255/270. If making a delivery downtown, use I-44 or I-64.
Do not attempt to use the local detour. It uses local city streets. The narrow lanes and many stoplights make the route unfriendly for trucks.

MoDOT closed Route 136/61 at Alexandria in Clark County due to high water from heavy rain received overnight in Iowa. The Mississippi River is about two feet above flood stage. Due to the amount of rainfall north of the area it is uncertain when the road will open to traffic.
Route 136/61 traffic normally going across the Des Moines River Bridge near Keokuk, Iowa is being directed to the Des Moines River Bridge at St. Francisville. Motorists traveling into Iowa should proceed north on Route 61 to Wayland, and continue north on Route 27 through St. Francisville into Iowa. Detour signs are in place to advise motorists of these alternate routes.
In St. Charles County, MoDOT closed a section of Route 94 due to high water.
Check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org or call MoDOT at 1-888-275-6636 to learn if any Missouri highway on your route is closed by floodwater.
Roads will reopen only when they are safe for travel. DO NOT drive around barriers and DO NOT drive if you cannot see the pavement of the road. The pavement might have washed away.
If traveling with an oversize overweight permit, do not deviate from the prescribed route. Call MoDOT Motor Carrier Services at 1-866-831-6277 for a new permit.

MoDOT will temporarily shift northbound lanes of Interstate 270 to the new southbound bridge over Dorsett Road beginning Thursday evening, June 17, weather permitting.
The shift will occur following Thursday evening's rush hour. Crews will close the far left lane of northbound I-270 at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 17. Starting at 9 p.m., crews will close a second left lane on northbound I-270. By rush hour Friday morning, all four northbound traffic lanes will be on the new bridge.
Drivers will experience a slightly rougher bypass roadway in the shift area. Motorists will cross the median where barrier wall was removed, and vehicles will travel on a temporary connection to the new bridge.
The existing bypass for southbound I-270 will remain in place during this stage of construction. Both the southbound and northbound bypasses have narrow lanes with no shoulders and a reduced speed limit of 45 mph.
These traffic shifts and reduced speed limits will remain through mid July.
Please be patient and watch other drivers carefully as you travel through the area.

MoDOT will close Interstate 70 between mile markers 248 and 249 in Downtown St. Louis beginning at 8 p.m., Friday, June 25. It will reopen by 5 a.m., Monday, June 28.
While I-70 is closed, the bridge that carries St. Louis Avenue over the interstate will be demolished.
Commercial drivers should use another route. These include Interstates 44, 55, 64 and 255/270. Please do not use I-70 and plan to use city streets around the closure. The streets cannot handle both passenger and commercial traffic volume normally carried by the interstate.
